Trauma and EMDR

Trauma can take many forms. Most people associate PTSD with trauma or perhaps the after affects of a sexual assault or deeply troubling accident. In the vast majority of these cases a great deal of pain is experienced and we have trouble dealing with and treating that suffering. But suffering from the pain of trauma is not a lifetime sentence. We don’t have to let it dominate our lives.

One way that the psychologists and therapists at The Life Change Group treat trauma has been by using a therapy called EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing). According to the EMDR Institute, EMDR is “a psychotherapy that enables people to heal from the symptoms and emotional distress that are the result of disturbing life experiences. EMDR therapy shows that the mind can in fact heal from psychological trauma much as the body recovers from physical trauma.” EMDR has proven results. In fact, some of the studies show that 84%-90% of single-trauma victims no longer have post-traumatic stress disorder after only three 90-minute sessions.
