Julian Pyles, Counseling Intern
Biography
Juliana Pyles is a Counseling Intern at The Life Change Group, which focuses on achieving balance, growth and fulfillment for individuals, families and couples. She joins the practice as part of her internship at Georgia State University. Juliana grew up in Colombia and speaks fluent Spanish.
Experience
Juliana is currently pursuing a Master's Degree in Clinical Mental Health, and then a LPC (Licensed Professional Counselor) certification. She has experience working with children and adolescents, both in an individual setting as well as with parent and child. Juliana also works specifically with needs involving immigration and cultural adjustment. She is also interested in working with couples and parenting skills.
Working with Adolescents
Part of working with children and adolescents comes from having worked as an Au Pair and nanny for more than five years. "As a caregiver you have the ultimate responsibility," says Juliana. "Working with children and teens is challenging. However, I've found that if both parties are willing to share and listen, you can have those authentic points of connection and really start to work on the underlying issues."
Philosophy
Juliana's therapeutic philosophy is informed by the theory of Existentialism. It describes four “ultimate concerns of life”—death, freedom, existential isolation, and meaninglessness. One of her role models is Dr. Irvin Yalom, one of the most influential contributors to this theory. She uses this foundation to discuss how these concerns show up in personality and psychopathology, and how her treatment methodology are assisted by our knowledge of each.
