About Sonya Tucker, EdS
Sonya Tucker is a Licensed Professional Counselor and has held Georgia licensure since 1998; however, many families in Peachtree City know her as a former school counselor.
In addition to working in the private counseling sector with children, adolescents and young adults, Sonya has worked in all three school system levels – elementary, middle and high school – for the past 23 years. She has also taught psychology classes at Clayton State University and Georgia Military College for more than a decade. These experiences have provided her a rich background in understanding the culture of the Peachtree City and surrounding area and its incredible rewards and challenges. Sonya specializes in working with children, adolescents and adults who encounter anxiety and stress in dealing with the day to day issues that complicate life. In addition to school and clinical counseling, Sonya also worked for Central Florida Hospice with families who experienced a death and for a Victim Assistance Program in South Georgia as a family crisis counselor.
Style & Approach
As the parent of three wonderful adult children who grew up in this area, Sonya can relate to the pressures that parents and students feel. With a passion for working with pre-teens and teens as they struggle to define their identities, cope with the changes that take place within themselves, and adjust to the demands of a constantly changing world, she works collaboratively with parents, the family, school counselors and medical providers to provide an optimum level of care. It is her firm belief that working with the family unit provides the most lasting stimulus for change. She also relates to adults who are struggling with career changes, relationship issues and the challenges of life in a fast paced world. Her other passions and areas of expertise lie in dealing with grief and trauma, internet and gaming addiction, LGTBQ concerns, and transition periods in life.
Her Master’s degree in Counseling was obtained from Georgia Southern University, and EdS in Counseling was earned from West Georgia University.
